About Coat of Arms Creator

Coat of Arms Creator (coatofarmscreator.com) is a free online coat of arms maker that lets anyone design a heraldic shield, crest and motto in the browser and download it as PNG, JPG or SVG, with no account. It opens straight into the editor. Choose a shield, divide the field, click each part to set its tincture, add charges such as a lion or an eagle, and finish with a motto on a scroll. Most designs take a few minutes, and you can save one in your browser to come back to later.

Who it is for

People who want arms of their own, for all the things a coat of arms is used for. Families planning a reunion or a wedding, someone making a gift, a school house or a club, a writer or game master inventing a noble house, or a person sketching a tattoo idea. You do not need design software or any heraldry background to make your own coat of arms, and the maker is free to use.

A design, not a grant

A coat of arms made here is your own design. It is not an official grant of arms. In England, Scotland, Canada, Ireland and some other countries, official arms come from a heraldic authority. The guide to the family crest and the coat of arms explains how that works and what you can do with a design you make yourself.

Guides and sources

The heraldry guides cover symbols and their meanings, tinctures, the rule of tincture, divisions of the field, the parts of a full achievement and Latin mottos. Short answers live in the FAQ, and the glossary defines words like blazon, gules and rampant. Facts link to the source they come from, such as the College of Arms or the Court of the Lord Lyon.

Artwork credits

Many of the heraldic charges are line drawings from Wikimedia Commons that their artists released into the public domain or under CC0, including the Coa Illustration series. The simpler silhouette charges are from game-icons.net by Lorc, Delapouite and contributors, used under the CC BY 3.0 license. Editor icons are from Phosphor Icons (MIT). The lettering uses fonts under the SIL Open Font License, including Cinzel, UnifrakturMaguntia, MedievalSharp, Uncial Antiqua, IM Fell English, Cormorant Garamond, Playfair Display and Archivo.

Your designs stay with you

The editor runs in your browser. Your designs and any images you upload are not sent to our servers unless you create a share link, and saved designs live in your browser's storage on your device. The privacy policy has the details.

Independence

Coat of Arms Creator is not owned by a crest seller, a genealogy company or a print shop, and it does not sell your designs or pass them to anyone. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed here.
