What file format is best for printing a coat of arms?

SVG is the best format for printing a coat of arms, because it is a vector file that stays sharp at any size. Otherwise send the largest PNG. PNG can keep a transparent background. JPG works for quick sharing but always has a solid background.

The coat of arms maker exports PNG at 1200, 2400 or 4800 pixels wide. At 300 pixels per inch, a 4800 pixel PNG prints about 16 inches wide, enough for posters and T-shirts. For banners, signs, embroidery or engraving, give the shop the SVG.

Set the background before you export. Leave it on None for shirts, mugs and stickers so only the shield prints, or pick White or Parchment for a framed piece. The optional black outline helps the shield stand out on light fabric or paper. The heraldry colors guide helps you check tinctures first.
