How much does a coat of arms cost?

A personal grant of arms and crest from the College of Arms in London costs £9,600, the fee set from 1 January 2026. Designing your own coat of arms costs nothing, but a homemade design is not an official grant.

The fee rises most years and is paid when you submit your petition. A grant to a non-profit body costs £19,830 and a grant to a company £29,560, according to the [College of Arms](https://www.college-of-arms.gov.uk/services/granting-arms). In Canada, the [Canadian Heraldic Authority](https://www.gg.ca/en/heraldry) charges a $435 processing fee plus tax, and you pay the artist and calligrapher on top of that.

In Scotland, the Court of the Lord Lyon charges fees fixed by statute and works out the total for each case. You also have to qualify for a grant, which is why you cannot simply buy a coat of arms. For family use, a design from the coat of arms maker is free.
