Bend
A bend is an ordinary in the form of a diagonal band running from the upper dexter corner of the shield to the lower sinister corner. Seen from the front, it goes from top left to bottom right. A band running the other way is a bend sinister.
Baden has borne Or, a bend gules since at least 1243, and the same shield still appears in the arms of Baden-Württemberg. A half width bend is a bendlet, and a field of diagonal stripes is bendy. The bend sinister is rare on its own and more often shows up as a mark of difference. To read the directions, see dexter and sinister.
In the coat of arms maker, the Shield tab offers Bend and Bend sinister as ordinaries, Per bend and Per bend sinister as divisions, and Bendy as a pattern. A charge can also be set in bend by rotating it. The heraldic divisions guide puts them all side by side.
